About the Everstar Male Groin Protector

Groin protection is compulsory for sparring and competition in virtually every combat sport, and for obvious reasons it is not the piece of equipment to economise on or forget.

This is the traditional strapped design — a rigid moulded cup inside a padded shell, held by an adjustable elasticated waist strap and leg straps. It fits over the shorts rather than inside them, which is the standard configuration for boxing, karate and Muay Thai.

Sizing

Sizes run S to XL, based on waist measurement. Measure around your waist at the hip bone.

  • Small — approx. 66–76cm waist
  • Medium — approx. 76–86cm waist
  • Large — approx. 86–96cm waist
  • Extra Large — approx. 96–106cm waist

The cup should sit flush against the body with no gap and no movement when you shift stance. A guard that slides during a round is not protecting anything, so set the leg straps snug and re-check them after your warm-up.

Strapped or compression style?

The strapped design worn over the shorts is the traditional and most widely accepted configuration, and it is what most karate, boxing and Muay Thai clubs expect to see.

The synthetic leather groin guard in our MMA range is the alternative for grapplers, where a bulkier external guard can snag during ground work. Check your club's requirement before competition, as accepted styles vary by federation.

Hygiene

This is equipment that sits against the body for an entire session, so hygiene is not optional. Wipe the shell and straps down after every use with a mild antibacterial cleaner and air it fully before it goes back in your bag.

Never share a groin guard, and replace it if the shell cracks or the strap elastic goes slack. A cracked cup concentrates impact rather than spreading it, which defeats the purpose entirely.

Common questions

What size groin guard do I need?

Sizing is based on waist measurement: roughly 66-76cm for Small, 76-86cm Medium, 86-96cm Large and 96-106cm Extra Large. The cup should sit flush with no gap and should not move when you change stance.

Is a groin guard compulsory for sparring?

In virtually every combat sport, yes - for both sparring and competition. Check your specific club or federation rules, as the accepted style of guard can vary.

Do you wear a groin guard over or under your shorts?

This strapped design is worn over the shorts, which is standard for boxing, karate and Muay Thai. Grapplers often prefer a compression-style guard worn underneath to avoid snagging during ground work.

How do you clean a groin protector?

Wipe the shell and straps with a mild antibacterial cleaner after every session and air it fully before storing. Never share one, and replace it if the shell cracks or the elastic goes slack.
