About the EVERSTAR Synthetic Leather Groin Guard

A synthetic leather groin guard built for the demands of MMA and grappling, where a bulky externally strapped guard catches on a gi, snags during ground transitions and shifts out of position in the scramble.

The moulded cup sits inside a synthetic leather shell with a lower profile and a more contoured fit than the traditional strapped design, so it stays put through takedowns, guard passes and ground work.

Sizing

Sizes run S to XL by waist measurement. Measure around the waist at the hip bone.

  • Small — approx. 66–76cm
  • Medium — approx. 76–86cm
  • Large — approx. 86–96cm
  • Extra Large — approx. 96–106cm

Fit should be snug with no gap between the cup and the body. Test it by shooting a takedown and sitting into guard before you rely on it in a live round — if it shifts during either, adjust the fit or size down.

Why grapplers need a different guard

In striking-only sports the threat is a single hard impact, and a bulky external guard handles that well. In grappling the threats are different: knees in the clinch, accidental contact during scrambles, and pressure from an opponent's hip or shoulder in tight positions.

That calls for a guard that stays in position through constant movement and does not present edges for a gi or a limb to catch on. The lower-profile synthetic leather build is designed around exactly that.

Care

Wipe the synthetic leather down after every session with a mild antibacterial cleaner and air it out fully. Grappling gear absorbs more sweat than striking gear because you are in sustained close contact for the whole round.

Inspect the cup for cracks periodically and replace it if you find any — a cracked shell concentrates force instead of spreading it. If you train striking as well as grappling, the traditional strapped groin protector is the better choice for those sessions.

Common questions

What groin guard is best for MMA and grappling?

A lower-profile contoured guard like this one. Bulky externally strapped guards catch on a gi, snag during ground transitions and shift out of position in scrambles. This design stays put through takedowns and guard passing.

What size groin guard should I order?

Sizing is by waist measurement at the hip bone: roughly 66-76cm Small, 76-86cm Medium, 86-96cm Large, 96-106cm Extra Large. Test the fit by shooting a takedown and sitting into guard before using it in a live round.

Is groin protection required for MMA training?

Yes, for sparring and competition in virtually all combat sports. Confirm the specific style your club or federation accepts, as requirements vary.

How do you clean a groin guard?

Wipe it down after every session with a mild antibacterial cleaner and air it fully before storing. Grappling gear absorbs more sweat than striking gear, so this matters more than you would expect.
