Full-length training pants cut for combat sports, with a loose hip and thigh, an elasticated drawstring waist and enough length to sit properly over the ankle in a fighting stance. Sized XS to XL.
These are the winter training option for boxers in the colder parts of South Africa, and the correct kit for traditional and amateur settings that specify long-legged uniform.
Why boxers train in long pants
Warm muscles are less injury-prone, and that matters more than it sounds during a June evening session in a Gauteng or Free State gym where the building has no heating.
There is also the practical matter of skin protection. Long pants keep your legs off a cold or rough gym floor during ground conditioning, core work and stretching.
Fit
Loose through the seat and thigh, with a waist that holds position without needing the drawstring pulled tight. Sizing runs XS to XL.
Always check length in a fighting stance rather than standing upright. Dropping into stance and widening your base shortens the effective inseam, and a pair that looked correct standing straight can end up underfoot.
Care and alternatives
Cold wash inside out and hang to dry. Heat from a tumble dryer will perish the waistband elastic well before the fabric wears out.
For summer training or any session involving kicks, kickboxing shorts or boxing shorts are the better option. Most boxers who train year-round own both and rotate seasonally.
